GPS on every rental unit. This notice explains what information the tracking devices on our rental and lease equipment collect and how Mainland Truck and Trailer Sales Ltd. uses it.
What is collected
The devices record the equipment’s location and movement, such as its position, speed, direction, distance travelled and the date and time, and information about the device itself. They track the equipment, not a person, but the information may be linked to the customer and the driver using the equipment at the time.
Why we use it
- to locate, protect and recover our equipment, including if it is stolen or not returned;
- to measure mileage and usage for billing;
- to plan maintenance and support you on the road;
- to enforce the terms of our rental and lease agreements and meet our legal obligations.
Who sees it
Our staff and the service providers who supply and support the tracking system, under confidentiality obligations. Your account’s information may be shown to you in our customer portal. We may share it with insurers or the police, for example to recover a stolen unit, or where the law requires.
How long we keep it
We keep tracking information for as long as we need it for the purposes above, including resolving billing questions and claims, or as the law requires, and then delete it or make it anonymous.
Telling your drivers
As the renter, you agree to tell your employees, drivers and contractors who use our equipment that it is tracked, and to point them to this notice.
