We Remember: September 11

A message from Mainland Truck and Trailer Sales & Leasing

September 11, 2001 changed the course of history. Twenty-four years later, the images of that morning remain vivid: lives cut short, families forever altered, and first responders running toward danger with courage that still humbles us. Today, we pause to remember the nearly 3,000 souls lost, to honor those who survived and still carry invisible burdens, and to thank the countless people whose service helped a shaken world stand back up.

From our home in British Columbia, we stand with our neighbors across North America—especially the families, first responders, and transportation professionals who shouldered the immense task of recovery. The memory of 9/11 is not confined by borders. It lives as a shared promise: to look out for one another, to meet crisis with compassion, and to rebuild with determination.

The road’s quiet heroes

In the days and weeks after the attacks, trucking and logistics became lifelines. Drivers moved steel and concrete for rebuilding, delivered medical supplies and food, and kept communities connected when it mattered most. The work was unglamorous and relentless—early starts, long waits at tightened checkpoints, miles that felt heavier than usual. Yet, like the firefighters and police on the front lines, drivers answered the call.

At Mainland Truck and Trailer Sales & Leasing, we see that spirit every day in the people who keep freight moving: the drivers who respect every mile; the shop and yard teams who treat safety as sacred; and the dispatchers who balance urgency with care. On 9/11, we remember that transportation isn’t just an industry—it’s a community that shows up.

Remembrance that guides how we work

Honoring 9/11 means more than words. It means aligning our operations with the values the day demands of us.

  • Safety, always: A culture of safety is a culture of respect—for life, for families, for communities. We treat pre-trip inspections, maintenance schedules, and securement protocols as non-negotiable.

  • Professionalism under pressure: The world can change in an instant. Training, communication, and preparedness ensure our teams respond with calm, clarity, and care.

  • Compassion in motion: Deliveries matter because people matter. When storms, wildfires, or emergencies hit, we prioritize essential goods and support customers who are serving their communities.

  • Respect for service: We honor first responders, veterans, and the organizations that help them—today and all year long.

A moment of silence

We invite our teammates, customers, and partners to join us in a moment of silence today. Whether you’re in the cab of a truck, on the shop floor, or at a desk, pause for a minute to remember the lives lost and the bravery shown. Reflection is not a pause in progress—it’s the fuel for better decisions and better days.

Teaching the next generation

Many joining our industry today were too young to remember 9/11 firsthand. Part of our responsibility is to pass on the lessons:

  • Courage looks like service. Heroism is often quiet: doing the job right, helping a colleague, giving way to an ambulance, reporting a hazard, or staying patient at a checkpoint.

  • Security is a shared duty. Professional drivers and fleets are partners in national and community safety. Vigilance, documentation, and compliance protect everyone.

  • Unity is a strength. When times are hard, competitors become collaborators. The supply chain is only as strong as the way we treat each other.

How we honor—today and every day

  • We listen. For those personally affected, today can be hard. We make space for stories, silence, and support.

  • We give back. We encourage contributions—time, resources, or donations—to reputable groups supporting first responders, survivors, and their families.

  • We lead with care. Every customer interaction, every maintenance check, every mile driven is an opportunity to honor 9/11 by doing the right thing well.

We remember

To the families who grieve, to the responders who served, to the drivers who kept goods moving, and to everyone who still carries the weight of that day—your courage is not forgotten. We remember the lives. We respect the sacrifices. And we choose, together, to build a safer, kinder, more resilient future on the road ahead.
